PUTRAJAYA is willing to consider reviving the scrapped KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) if it is financed by the private sector, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said the prime minister had told him to listen to proposals by the private sector on possibly funding the multibillion-ringgit project.
He stressed that no decision had been made on reviving the project nor any timeline been set.
“We can talk about it; we are open to proposals, as long as it is not funded by the government.
“Right now, there are no definite proposals coming in. A lot of parties are talking about pursuing it, but we have not received any complete proposals,” he told reporters today.
The 350 km HSR project was initiated during Najib Razak’s time as prime minister and suspended by the Pakatan Harapan administration that won the 2018 general election.
Subsequently, when Muhyiddin Yassin was prime minister, Malaysia paid Singapore RM320 million in compensation to terminate the project. – March 8, 2023.
