FORMER prime minister Najib Razak is pursuing post-graduate studies in jail.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail revealed this in an interview with Sin Chew Daily today.

He said Najib is not allowed to use a laptop or access the internet in Kajang Prison.

“In Kajang Prison, there are those who have completed their master’s degree and PhD. Many people do not know this,” Saifuddin said.

Najib was jailed on August 23, 2022 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and 12-year prison sentence for embezzling RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Saifuddin also explained how the former Pekan lawmaker could maintain his active presence in social media.

“He is physically imprisoned in Kajang but he has his own media team. I am told they have his username and password and they can post his thoughts on social media.

“But whether he has access to any gadgets, the answer is no; take it from me, the most authoritative person on the matter,” he was quoted as saying in the report.

Saifuddin noted that Primer Minister Anwar Ibrahim had also issued press statements from jail when he was incarcerated in Sungai Buloh Prison. – March 8, 2023.
