HOME Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he has not seen the letter from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) allowing Umno’s motion for a no-contest for the top two posts.

Speaking to reporters in Penang today, Saifuddin said he would need time to look into the matter.

“I have not had communication with anyone.

“I was outstation… to be fair, give me time to look at the letter first,” he said when asked about the issue.

“I do not want to make a statement in haste,” he said.

On Saturday, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party had received a letter from Saifuddin a day earlier regarding the ROS decision.

His statement was immediately questioned by some Umno leaders who said they had heard that the ROS had rejected Umno’s no-contest motion.

Following this, Zahid said Umno would publicly reveal the ROS letter.

Umno had pushed through a motion in its annual assembly in January to stop challenges for the post of president and deputy.

This would allow Zahid and his deputy Mohamad Hassan to remain in their posts.

Several Umno members were unhappy with the decision and had lodged a complaint with the ROS. – March 6, 2023.
