UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been told to disclose the letter form the Registrar of Societies (ROS) that it had cleared Umno of any wrongdoing after the party had approved a no-contest motion for the presidency and deputy presidency.
Vice president Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the president should furnish the letter as there were conflicting reports on the ROS position.
“He should disclose the ROS letter as there are two conflicting media reports on the matter.
“One said ROS had rejected the motion but hardly a day later there was another report it had accept the general assembly’s decision. Everyone is confused.
“I also read the media reports,” he told Malay-language news portal Berita Harian.
Last night Zahid said the Registrar of Societies (ROS) cleared Umno of any wrongdoing after the party had approved a no-contest motion for the presidency and deputy presidency.
“The secretary-general received a letter, dated March 3, from the home ministry to inform us of the minister’s decision on the motion,” he told a press conference.
ROS comes under the Home Ministry’s authority.
Last month, it was reported that ROS was investigating a possible violation of the party’s constitution after the motion was approved by the Umno general assembly.
The investigation was initiated after two Umno members lodged a report with ROS claiming that the tabling of the motion had breached Article 10 of the party’s constitution.
They insisted that it had to be tabled two weeks before the general assembly, or seven days if tabled by the Supreme Council. – March 5, 2023.
