THE Health Ministry (MOH) will monitor for cases of waterborne diseases after the floods, especially leptospirosis and food poisoning, its minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said.

“We will also mobilise other teams for clean-up works, particularly at health facilities affected by the disaster,” she said after officiating at the Nursing Professional Group International Nursing Conference 2023 in Malacca today.

Zaliha added that the MOH has a standard operating procedure in place for flood disasters, especially in managing temporary relief centres.

This includes carrying out fogging to prevent infectious diseases and setting up mobile clinics to provide immediate treatment to flood victims.

Health personnel also conducted Covid-19 screening on flood evacuees housed in relief centres, she said.

The flood situation has worsened several with the number of evacuees soaring to 48,989 this morning.

Johor still has the highest number of victims, at 44,860, followed by Pahang (2,978), Negri Sembilan (587), Malacca (493) and Selangor (71). – Bernama, March 5, 2023.
