AS he waited for help, a man stranded at a restaurant in Segamat after floods inundated a road leading to the area used TikTok to share his situation.

Using an account under the name “Pak Arab”, Syed Syaiful Syah, who was stranded at the eatery with his friend, told his TikTok viewers he had gone to Tenang in Segamat earlier to clear trees felled by heavy rain yesterday.

However, on his way home, he learnt from others that flood waters had reached chest level in the town.

“I still don’t know how things are in my village since I can’t get there. I’m now waiting for help at Restoran Natasha, because people say this area is on higher ground,” he said during the live session at about 3am today.

The TikTok live caught the attention of a Civil Defence Force (CDF) member, who left a comment saying a team was in Genuang and on its way to rescue him.

“Be careful and avoid rushing currents. We will stay in touch through this live session,” said the CDF representative.

Some viewers joined the live session to share information about the flood situations where they were.

“I always help others, especially post-flood. I help clean their houses because I have the necessary equipment. But I never thought I would be stranded,” he said.

As at 8am today, the number of flood evacuees in Johor doubled to 25,213 people at relief centres, with Segamat recording the highest toll with 7,272 victims. – Bernama, March 2, 2023.
