BERSATU treasurer-general Mohd Salleh Bajuri has been remanded for two days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for matters relating to the party’s accounts, said reports.

MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed the arrest but did not elaborate.

Salleh was nabbed by the anti-graft agency on Tuesday.

“This is a purely political persecution by those intending to taint Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional. The remand ends tomorrow and he should be released tomorrow,” The Star quoted a source as saying.

This is the latest arrest involving a top Bersatu official. MACC has charged two other party leaders in court.

On February 21, Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged for allegedly receiving RM6.9 million in bribes for securing a RM232 million road project.

Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad was charged on the same day for allegedly soliciting between 3.5% and 7% of the value of a RM47.8 million road project.

Adam Radlan was then charged four more times for soliciting bribes linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

The MACC froze Bersatu’s bank accounts last month to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. – March 2, 2023.
