THE Ministry of Education (MOE) will reschedule SPM exams for 431 candidates left stranded by floods.
In a statement today, the MOE said the Examination Board was collecting detailed information about the affected candidates.
“The rescheduling of the exam will be implemented after getting the confirmation of the state education director,” the ministry said.
The MOE said the prolonged downpour yesterday had affected 17 exam centres in Johor, Pahang and Sarawak, with seven cut off by flooding.
The ministry said that with the help of government agencies 195 candidates in Johor and Pahang were moved to alternative centres to sit for their exam.
“Uncertain weather conditions and continuous heavy rain have affected the smooth management of the SPM exams.
“The MOE is always ready with standard operating procedures and appropriate measures to ensure that exams can proceed smoothly and in an orderly manner,” the ministry said.
As of this morning, almost 27,500 people have been evacuated to relief centres in Johor, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Sabah and Malacca.
The MOE also advised SPM candidates to immediately inform their respective schools or state education departments if they become stranded and cannot get to any nearby examination centre.
Candidates can also contact the flood operations rooms at the Examination Board headquarters and the state education departments. – Bernama, March 2, 2023.
