THREE high-risk expectant mothers – in the first stage of labour and cut off from emergency medical care due to a road collapse in Felda Selancar, Rompin – were successfully airlifted to hospital by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) yesterday.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the three women are now receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) maternity ward in Kuantan, after being transferred by ambulance to the hospital at 8.33pm, from the nearby RMAF base.
“The mercy flight took off after Rompin health office received information from Perwira Jaya Health Clinic at 10.30am about the mothers’ condition.
“An obstetric retrieval team from HTAA, comprising an obstetric medical officer and a nurse, was flown to Felda Selancar at 4.51pm using an RMAF helicopter,” he said in a statement today.
Noor Hisham said the team arrived at the location at 6.15pm, and the three patients were examined and assessed as stable before being flown out.
Noor Hisham thanked the RMAF, Rompin disaster operations control centre and the Pahang government for helping in the rescue mission.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who visited the location of the road collapse yesterday, said a Bailey bridge will be built there immediately. – Bernama, March 2, 2023.
