AMIRUDIN Shari has denied allegations he was personally involved in the awarding of a RM700 million river-deepening project through direct negotiations.

The Selangor menteri besar said the allegations made by Perikatan Nasional (PN) against him were “empty bullets” intended to raise doubt over his leadership.

He said the project, which is to deepen Sungai Klang, is managed by Menteri Besar Inc (MBI), via its subsidiary Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB), and Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand). 

“The allegations that my involvement in the project was based on personal interests are not true. I am only representing the state government and ensuring its interests are guaranteed comfortably. 

“Thank you Perikatan Nasional for the empty bullets towards the state government. You can try again next round,” he told a press conference outside parliament today. 

Amirudin and Selangor infrastructure and public amenities, agriculture modernisation and agro-based industry exco Izham Hashim sit on the LLSB board.

Amirudin said MBI owns a 45% equity of the company, while another 55% is owned by BLand.

Earlier today, Selangor PN lodged a report against Amirudin and asked police to investigate the menteri besar’s involvement in the awarding of the megaproject via direct negotiations by the Selangor government to LLSB. 

LLSB managing director Syaiful Azmen Nordin said the RM700 million is an estimated cost for the Sungai Klang deepening project, which is to mitigate flooding.

He said the project does not involve cash injections from the Selangor government. 

Syaiful also said the project was proposed to the state after the massive flood that hit Selangor in 2021. – March 1, 2023.
