DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng today slammed Abdul Hadi Awang for his continuous systematic sabotage campaign to undermine the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Lim lambasted the PAS president for saying the unity government would collapse and that Pakatan Harapan only managed to form a government with the non-Muslim vote.
“Hadi cited as evidence the 68% turnout of Muslim voters compared with the 98% turnout of non-Muslim voters.
“This is false and must be exposed as a lie. The actual overall turnout for the elections was 74%. Researcher Bridget Welsh contradicted Hadi by stating that Malays had the best voter turnout among all races, at 79 %,” the Bagan MP said.
Hadi yesterday said non-Muslims will control the country if Malays do not pay more attention to political matters.
He also said the unity government is a non-Muslim government.
Responding to this, Lim called Hadi an outright liar.
“Hadi lied by stating the unity government is a non-Muslim government. Out of the 148 MPs supporting the unity government, more than half, or 77, are Muslim MPs, dispelling the false narrative that the unity government is dominated by non-Muslim MPs.
“The 77 Muslim MPs in the unity government contrast with the 72 out of 74 Perikatan Nasional MPs who are Muslims. In other words, there are more Muslim MPs in the unity government than (on the) the opposing Perikatan Nasional (side).
“Yet Hadi continues with falsehoods to project extremist sentiments and corral Muslim votes without any regard whatsoever for non-Muslims in Malaysia,” said Lim.
Lim stressed that Malaysia belongs to all citizens, including non-Muslims.
“For Hadi to continue to exclude non-Muslims is not only wrong, but also opposes the royal command of the king to respect diversity and tolerance in our multiracial society.” – March 1, 2023.
