Tawau Apas rep dies

SABAH’S youth and sports minister and Tawau Apas assemblyman Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, 56, died of cancer yesterday.

He died in Kuala Lumpur from colon cancer at 11.57pm, according to a family member. He had been receiving treatment at the KL hospital for the last eight months.

Tawfiq, a member of Sabah Umno, was known as the minister who established the state’s first youth index which she mooted in 2013.  

The index is aimed at understanding the challenges and issues faced by Sabah youth and is used as a reference point for the state government to deal with their problems.  

News of his death was announced by his brother, Nizam, slightly after midnight. – March 15, 2018.
