MOHAMAD Salim Fateh Din has been appointed chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for two years starting March 1, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said.

In announcing Salim’s appointment, Fahmi said Salim’s appointment would certainly help in the ministry’s efforts to overcome communication infrastructure issues, including for the 3% of populated areas that still do not have internet access.

“It is an effort to overcome the digital divide and drive Malaysia towards a ‘golden digital decade’,” he said.

Salim was previously MCMC interim chairman from June 2022 to January 2023.

The 64-year-old is also a member of the consultation and corruption prevention panel under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, as well as the current executive vice-chairman of Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd.

Salim was once dubbed the “king of petrol stations” because of his close relationship with oil companies. – February 28, 2023.
