BARISAN Nasional (BN) has sent a letter of demand to Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin and information chief Mohamed Azmin Ali for alleging that BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is behind the arrest of Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

BN demanded that Muhyiddin and Azmin apologise and retract their remarks made against Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister.

“Zahid has never abused his position to get Perikatan Nasional leaders charged.

“The deputy prime minister’s focus is on managing the nation’s affairs,” BN said in a statement.

Last week, Muhyiddin told reporters that the charges against his party leaders were masterminded by Zahid in an attempt to weaken the coalition, following the accusations of bribery brought in court against Wan Saiful.

Also charged was Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad for soliciting and accepting bribes in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.

Muhyiddin had said Zahid had previously issued statements that appeared to be attempts to paint Bersatu as a faction of the so-called court cluster.

The Bersatu president alleged the scheme had been worked out between BN and Pakatan Harapan, which, he said, are unhappy with the level of support his coalition garnered during the general election.

He said the charges against Wan Saiful signalled “selective prosecution”, adding his party has become the target of “certain quarters”.

BN has also demanded that Muhyiddin and Azmin pay the coalition compensation for tarnishing its image. – February 27, 2023.
