JOHAN Mahmood Merican is the Treasury secretary-general, effective today.

Chief secretary to the government Mohd Zuki Ali made the announcement today, saying the king had consented to the appointment.

Johan, 50, was the Treasury deputy secretary-general for policy.

Zuki said Johan was selected for the job based on his qualifications, leadership qualities and extensive experience in economics, finance and policy-making.

“I have full confidence in his qualifications, experience and credibility to carry the trust and support the mission and vision in continuing the excellence of the country’s financial and economic management, which is efficient, transparent and effective in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” said Zuki.

Johan is a first-class graduate of Cambridge University and a chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

He was formerly CEO of Talent Corp Malaysia Bhd. He was also chief of the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation and a Sabah federal secretary.– Bernama, February 27, 2023.
