TWO teenagers have been arrested after a video of a student criticising the history paper for this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) surfaced on social media.
According to reports, Hulu Selangor district police chief Suffian Abdullah said the duo were detained yesterday to assist in an investigation after receiving a report from a teacher.
“The viral video on TikTok and Facebook showed a male student in his school uniform expressing his dissatisfaction with the SPM history paper.
“The student used vulgar words to criticise those who had set the questions and also insulted Singapore,” Suffian said in a statement.
The two arrested were aged 18.
Suffian added that the two students were apprehended by the district police headquarter’s criminal investigation department (CID) at their homes and their mobile phones were also seized.
“Urine tests for drugs on both suspects turned out to be negative and further checks showed that they do not have any past criminal record.
“The case is being investigated under section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1995 and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said.
The public have been urged not to share the video, which could cause disharmony and confusion among the people. – February 25, 2023.
