DR Mahathir Mohamad and 12 other former Pejuang members have joined Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra).
In a Facebook post, former Pejuang central executive committee member Armin Baniaz Pahamin confirmed the ex-members had signed with Putra.
Armin said Dr Mahathir joined Putra to continue his political struggle.
“The mission and goal must be clear if we are to succeed in a struggle. The main struggle and cause is to unite the people, the party and the Malay organisation.
“Please pray that God eases and blesses our struggle. It is only through uniting the Malays that we can band together to solve problems and issues for the sake of religion and country,” he said in the post.
Dr Mahathir and 12 other members quit Pejuang in early February after the party decided to quit the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition it had formed ahead of the general election.
Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir said their decision to quit GTA was made after taking into account views put forth during the party’s general assembly.
Pejuang was established by Dr Mahathir in August 2020, following his ousting from Bersatu.
He stepped down as chairman in December last year after the party’s miserable performance in the November general election, in which every Pejuang candidate lost their deposit.
Dr Mahathir had previously hinted at joining Putra as an adviser. – February 25, 2023.
