THE establishment of a special unit within the CID sexual, women and child investigations division will have a positive impact on efforts to curb child pornography, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said.

This follows the announcement of such a unit, when tabling Budget 2023 in parliament, by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

Acryl said the police welcomed the decision and additional funding for law enforcement.

“The police also appreciate the RM10 million operating grant to strengthen the role of the national scam response centre to curb online fraud,” he said in a statement last night.

Funding was also announced to procure body camera units and the construction of the new Perak police headquarters, complete with officers’ quarters, at a cost of RM450 million.

Acryl said police will ensure the funds are fully utilised.

Through Budget 2023, the government has allocated RM18.5 billion to the Home Affairs Ministry to spend on strengthening public order, and ensuring national peace and security. – Bernama, February 25, 2023.
