MUKHRIZ Mahathir is desperate for a seat, that is why he was talking to leaders from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH), Hamzah Zainudin said.

The opposition leader said this when asked to comment on reports that Pejuang president Mukhriz is engaging with PN and PH in a bid to form a partnership for the six upcoming state polls.

“These (separate meetings) mean he is desperate to find a seat. Let him be, it’s okay.

“As a politician, he has to (do the necessary) to survive,” Hamzah told reporters in the parliament lobby today.

Elections in Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu and Kelantan are scheduled for this year.

Yesterday, the six states’ chief ministers and menteris besar said they are looking at dissolving the assemblies after June.

Hamzah said PN parties are discussing seat allocations for the state polls.

“It’s not yet finalised, but we discussed several times about the seats that will be distributed among Perikatan parties,” said Hamzah.

Last week, Kedah PN chairman Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor was quoted as saying that Mukhriz, who is Jitra assemblyman, held talks with PAS leaders recently.

It was also reported that Mukhriz met with Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar in December last year.

In January, Mukhriz announced Pejuang’s exit from Gerakan Tanah Air to focus on strengthening the party.

Apart from Mukhriz, Pejauang’s other assemblyman in Kedah is Amiruddin Hamzah (Anak Bukit). – February 23, 2023.
