THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said it was still investigating former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin over his role in the Jana Wibawa scheme.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency has yet to submit its investigation papers to the attorney-general.

“Investigations are still ongoing,” he told the media during a press conference today.

The Perikatan Nasional chairman had last week claimed that he was not a suspect in the probe and that the Jana Wibawa programme was proposed by former finance minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Jana Wibawa was introduced to expedite project execution to spur the nation’s economic recovery post Covid-19 pandemic.

It was also aimed at improving the capacity of Bumiputera contractors in the construction sector to be more resilient and competitive.

On Monday, Wan Saiful Wan Jan claimed trial to the charge of accepting almost RM7 million in kickbacks in connection with the Jana Wibawa aid programme.

He was also charged with soliciting for RM232 million in bribes in relation to the same programme.

The Tasek Gelugor MP claimed trial to the charges read out to him in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court before Justice Azura Alwi.

The party’s Segambut Bersatu division deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad also claimed trial to charges of corruption in a separate court last Monday.

The 42-year-old is accused of asking for a bribe of up to 7% of the value of a RM47.8 million road construction project in Perlis, from one Mat Jusoh Mamat, who is the director of MIE Infrastructure & Energy Sdn Bhd.

Azam did not dismiss the possibility that more people would be charged over their involvement in the Jana Wibawa programme.

He said several more investigation papers have been opened, aside from the three main ones.

“We will continue with our investigation, as I said before.

“We have opened a few investigation papers, those completed have been referred to the attorney-general.

“There are still papers that remain under investigation, so I do not rule out the possibility of anyone, including leaders, if they are involved in bribery, being recommended for prosecution,” he said. – February 23, 2023.
