MENTERIS besar and chief minister of six states agreed today to consider dissolving their respective state assemblies in the final two weeks of June, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said.

He said the consensus was reached at a brief session at the sidelines of the Conference of Rulers meeting at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur today.

“In a nutshell, we came to an understanding to consider the dissolution of our state assemblies in the final two weeks of June,” he said in a statement.

“This understanding will be discussed further at the respective state levels before being presented to the state rulers or governors for their consent.”

The states that are to hold the elections this year are Pakatan Harapan-held Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang, and Perikatan Nasional-held Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Both the blocs are political rivals at the federal level.

The term for these six state assemblies expires by the end of June.

These states did not dissolve their respective state assemblies during the general election last November as they wanted to concentrate on flood mitigation works in the monsoon season.
