THE Education Ministry is confident school teachers will not practice political indoctrination in class, Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said.

The deputy education minister said that the ministry also believes that teachers will not abuse their position in such a way
“We have confidence in the teachers. In the teaching and learning of subjects, the teacher’s duty is to teach any topic objectively, including the topic of elections.
“Our teachers have been educated with integrity and to be objective and they are unlikely to influence students in terms of political beliefs,” Lim said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Lim was replying to an additional question by Wee Jeck Seng (Tanjung Piai-BN), who asked for steps taken to ensure that teachers do not influence students’ minds, leading them to vote for a certain political party.
In the 2022 general election, Malaysians aged 18 and below 21 voted for the first time after the law was changed to lower the voting age in 2019.
Lim said the ministry had prepared supporting education materials in the form of PowerPoint slides to help teachers teachthe students about elections.
“In addition, we also have videos from Didik TV on election topics,” the Tanjong MP said.
Lim said that the ministry will also work with the Youth and Sports Ministry to hold more programmes for impending school leavers to improve their understanding of politics. – February 22, 2023.
