THE Federal Court will be hearing Najib Razak’s SRC International corruption case review this morning.
The five-member bench, headed by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abdul Rahman Sebli, will proceed until Wednesday.
The other judges are Federal Court justice Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Rhodzariah Bujang, Nordin Hassan, and Court of Appeal judge Abu Bakar Jais.
Lawyers arrived at the Palace of Justice around 9.30am.
The former prime minister arrived from Kajang Prison at around 9.40am. He was surrounded by several prison officers.
Najib, 70, was found guilty of abuse of power in relation to a RM4 billion loan given by Retirement Fund (Inc) to SRC between August 2011 and March 2012.
He was also convicted of criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million of SRC funds between December 26, 2014 and February 10, 2015.
For this, Najib was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and fined RM210 million by the High Court, with the jail sentence and fine being upheld by the Court of Appeal on December 8, 2021 and further affirmed by the Federal Court on August 23 last year.
In the last hearing on January 19, Najib’s counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah sought a postponement, saying he needed more time to make oral submissions to Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who denied an application by Najib’s legal team to adjourn the SRC trial hearing. – February 20, 2023.
