Police sergeant remanded over ketum bribery claims


A POLICE sergeant was remanded for seven days starting today over allegations he asked for a RM7,000 bribe to release suspects caught in possession of ketum water.

Magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman issued the remand order for the 33-year-old officer who works at the  police narcotics division in Kuantan.

The sergeant was arrested yesterday after he gave his statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Kuantan.

The suspect is accused of soliciting for a bribe of RM7,000 from a man as an inducement to release his friends who were arrested on suspicion of being in possession of ketum water. – Bernama, February 18, 2023.
