THE Kuala Terengganu High Court today rejected a preliminary objection brought by Kuala Terengganu MP Ahmad Amzad Hashim to an election petition filed by Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Zubir Embong.

Judge Mohd Firruz Jaffril dismissed the application presented by Amzad’s lawyer without any order on costs.

Firruz made the decision in an online proceeding after considering submissions from both parties.

The court set 20 days, from April 3, to hear the petition.

“The judge made the decision after considering the arguments from both sides on January 30, and through the written arguments filed afterwards,” said PAS law and human rights bureau secretary Ahmad Lutfi Awang.

Terengganu Umno filed a petition on January 3 to annul the results of three seats – Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman.

Petitions were filed by its respective candidates, namely Jasmira Othman (Marang), Ahmad Said (Kemaman) and Zubir.

Ahmad, who is also Terengganu Umno chairman, claims that there is “clear evidence” from witnesses who are said to have received money from PAS to vote in the three constituencies.

On Sunday, the Electoral Court rejected Marang MP Abdul Hadi Awang’s preliminary objection to the petition.

However, for the Kemaman seat, the judge rejected the petition. Perikatan Nasional MP Che Alias Hamid retains the seat. – February 17, 2023.
