JOHOR Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi will not be standing for a central leadership post in the Umno elections, opting to concentrate on managing the state.

He said he will be running for the Simpang Renggam Umno division chief’s position.

“I have decided to remain focused on serving the state of Johor and strengthening the administration and development of the state,” he said on Facebook today,

“Hence, I will not be offering myself for a position at the central level but for the position of the Simpang Renggam Umno division chief in the elections.”

He said he made the decision after talking with family, friends and party leaders and Simpang Renggam grassroots.

Onn Hafiz was rumoured to have been interested in a seat on the Umno Supreme Council.

He had been a critic of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, even calling for the latter to resign following Barisan Nasional’s poor showing in the 2022 general election. – February 15, 2023.
