THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is leaving it to industry players to continue the implementation of Menu Rahmah.

Its minister, Salahuddin Ayub, said his ministry will not use the three-month period as a key performance indicator following the industry’s voluntary implementation of the initiative.

“They (industry) are free to implement Menu Rahmah and that is up to them because the implementation does not involve government funds.

“So far, no time frame has been set, as long as the industry considers it a form of assistance that needs to be continued,” he said at a press conference today.

Salahuddin had earlier launched the Menu Rahmah tour programme in Johor on February 9.

The tour would proceed to Perlis tomorrow.

Salahuddin said KPDN welcomed restaurant operators to register Menu Rahmah at the state KPDN office to help promote the restaurant.

Menu Rahmah is a balanced lunch or dinner meal that includes rice, a choice of protein such as chicken or fish, and vegetables at a very reasonable price of RM5 per plate.

He said, the government, especially KPDN, would continue to ensure that no one went hungry.

He did not deny the assertion by some that Menu Rahmah was a repeat of the budget menu.

“I don’t deny that claim because what is good is good. So, the programme is extended and we are never jealous of a good effort.

“Even if there are entrepreneurs who don’t name their menu as Menu Rahmah, it doesn’t matter, as long as the people’s stomachs are filled,” he said.

Meanwhile, Salahuddin said the government would have engagement sessions with food operators to promote Menu Rahmah via a directory that would list all who participated in the initiative. – February 13, 2023.
