YANG di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah lauded the agreement made between leaders of various political parties that brought about the unity government.

The king said that the move was in line with his desire to see a stable and strong government.

“With that, the government can now concentrate on its efforts to strengthen the determination to guarantee political stability, as well as generate economic growth for the welfare of the people,” the Agong said during his royal address at the 15th parliament’s first meeting of its second session.

The king said he appreciates the Malaysia Madani concept, which comprises values of sustainability, prosperity, creativity, respect, confidence, courtesy and mercy.

His Majesty said he hopes the principles are translated well to springboard the country to success.

The Agong also took the opportunity to congratulate those appointed as ministers of the unity government and Tambun MP Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

The king congratulated Anwar for proving the legitimacy of his position through a motion of confidence in parliament on December 19 last year.

Anwar’s unity government marks the first time a ruling coalition has held a two-thirds’ majority in the Dewan Rakyat in nearly 15 years.

A ruling coalition has not held that majority since Barisan Nasional lost its two-thirds’ majority after the 2008 general election. – February 13, 2023.
