NURUL Izzah Anwar is no longer senior adviser on economics and finance to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

In a statement, she said she will join the secretariat formed by the advisory panel for the Finance Ministry as its co-chairman.

“(Advisory committee chairman) Hassan (Marican) has invited me to join the advisory committee’s secretariat to help in its effort to strengthen the country and the people’s economy,” Izzah said in the statement.

“I humbly accept this responsibility, and with this new role, I will no longer serve as the senior adviser on economics and finance to the prime minister.

Nurul Izzah was appointed Anwar’s senior adviser on economics and finance on January 3, but was met with heavy criticism from the opposition as well as some in the government.

Despite the criticism, Anwar assured his daughter would never abuse her position for self-gain.

In defending his appointment of Nurul Izzah as senior adviser on economics and finance, the PKR president said her expertise and experience are needed.

He dismissed allegations that the appointment was a case of nepotism.

He said it is only nepotism when a family member is put in a position to abuse power, enrich themself, obtain contracts, and get paid huge sums. – February 12, 2023.
