OWNERS of private vehicles no longer have to display their motor vehicle licences, better known as road tax, effective today, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

He said this was part of the ministry’s efforts to digitise the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) services, particularly for motor vehicle and driving licences.

Loke also said section 20 of the Road Transport Act, which states that motor vehicle licences must be displayed on vehicles, will no longer be enforced.

“This will be done in stages, with the first phase involving individual private vehicles, including motorcycles, owned by Malaysians,” he said in a press conference this morning.

Loke said starting February 10, private vehicle owners can access the digital motor vehicle licence display mode (e-LKM) and digital driving licence (e-LMM) through the JPJ public portal or MyJPJ mobile application.

“I welcome all drivers and vehicle owners to switch to digital platforms.

“With digitisation, long queues at the JPJ counter will decrease and this will contribute to increased productivity and comfort for the people.”

The minister added that owners can still acquire and maintain the practice of displaying road tax stickers and use physical driving licence cards in the interim period.

He said to realise the digitisation initiative, the public is encouraged to register their respective accounts digitally through the JPJ public portal or MyJPJ mobile application.

“With the MyJPJ application users can check current details and create LKM Digital and LMM Digital displays.

“However, during the implementation period of this first phase, vehicle owners or licence holders will still exhibit the LKM and present the LMM card.”

Loke also said that enforcement will be carried out against any party driving a vehicle without having a valid motor vehicle licence or driving licence in accordance with provisions under subsections 20(1), 90 (1) and 26(1) of the Transport Act 1987. – February 10, 2023.
