UMNO has 60 days to give a detailed explanation on the no-contest motion for its top two posts, which was approved at the party’s recent general assembly, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president said this directive was from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) adding that Umno had met the ROS twice over the matter.

“I’m confident that the secretary-general can fulfil the ROS’ requests,” he told reporters earlier today.

Zahid said in its meetings with RoS, Umno was represented by party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan and its legal adviser.

Two Umno members had lodged a report with the ROS about three weeks ago seeking an investigation into a possible breach of the party’s constitution.

They claimed the tabling of the motion at the Umno general assembly breached article 10 of the party’s constitution.

They said the motion must have been tabled two weeks before the general assembly (seven days if tabled by the Supreme Council).

It was reported that the complaint was submitted over the no-contest motion by Kuala Nerus Umno member Muhammad Aizat Fikri Mohd Nasir and Seremban Umno member Muhammad Fiqri Firdaus Muhammad Rom, who said they hope ROS can determine if there are irregularities in the adopted motion. – February 9, 2023.
