KHAIRY Jamaluddin has a large youth following and Muda is looking forward to working with him if he should decide to contest in the coming state polls, the party’s secretary-general said.

Amir Hariri Abd Hadi said that even if the former health minister started his own party, they were willing to discuss matters with him.

“Even if he joins another party or starts his own, Muda is willing to discuss how we can move forward together.

“His (Khairy’s) experience in politics will be very beneficial. He has his own followers and we can see youth looking up to him,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Last month, Khairy said he was looking at Selangor to further his political career and could contest in the state polls after losing the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat in the recent general election (GE15).

“There is a possibility if I find the right fit with the right party. I think my politics has migrated to Selangor,” the sacked Umno leader had said earlier.

Amir said Muda was open to not only Khairy or Shahril Hamdan, but anyone else who subscribed to the party’s principles, such as economic justice, anti-racism, human rights, and more.

“We know that they have their followers and also they (Khairy and Shahril) still have a lot to offer the country.

“But, if they do decide to join us, they will have to subscribe to our party’s principles.”

Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Terengganu, Kedah, and Kelantan will hold elections this year.

No date has been set for the state polls. However, elections will need to be called for by September.

Only Pahang, Perak, and Perlis went to the polls two months ago to elect their state governments. Sabah, Malacca, Johor, and Sarawak had held state polls a year prior to GE15. – February 9, 2023.
