THE government secretariat has established 3 committees, including an election committee to draft strategies for this year’s state polls, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said last night.

The remaining two committees are the strategy committee, and the government and political agenda monitoring committee, he added.

“The election committee will focus on the upcoming state elections, including issues of seat allocation, to ensure a strong and united foundation between (government) parties nationwide,” he said in Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said election directors from each of the unity government’s component parties will be involved.

There will also be a strategic communications committee that will tackle extreme cases of slander, such as the recent Quran burning incident in Sweden.

“There were false accusations where certain religious figures alleged that the government did nothing.

“We strongly objected (to the incident) and the foreign minister summoned the Swedish ambassador, while I announced the distribution of 1 million copies of the Quran,” he said.

Anwar also said the government and political agenda monitoring committee would put the government’s policies first, including the cost of living.

He announced that Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof would be the secretariat’s secretary-general, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki as chief of the secretariat, and unity government party leaders as deputy chairmen.

“The chairman of each committee will be determined later, while the terms for each committee are to ensure that every policy is agreed upon together and decided at the cabinet meeting.

“The secretariat will also provide its views on policies and ensure all views are considered as the policies are drafted,” he said, adding that the secretariat will meet every month. – Bernama, February 8, 2023.
