BERSATU wants the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), alleging excessive spending during the November general election.

Puchong Bersatu division chief Mohd Shukor Mustaffa, who lodged a report at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya this morning, said one element of the lavish spending was PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim’s use of helicopters during the campaign period.

“Today, I am filing a report to the MACC about the lavish spending of PH and BN during the election.

“Various media reports and social media posts showed that PH and BN used a lot of posters and flags.

“Anwar also used a helicopter to get around during the campaign period,” Shukor said at a press conference in front of MACC headquarters.

“We hope for a comprehensive investigation into PH and BN, and especially Anwar,” he added.

The report against PH and BN – part of Anwar’s unity government – comes after the MACC froze Bersatu’s accounts as part of its investigation into allegations of massive misappropriation of government Covid-19 funds.

Previously, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki had said that an investigation paper had been opened regarding the alleged embezzlement of RM600 billion in funds used by the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN)-led government during the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022.

Bersatu leaders deny any wrongdoing, adding that funds were from legitimate sources.
