THE Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is ready to give its full co-operation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the arrest of two MMEA members on suspicion of receiving bribes.

Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone director Mohd Hashim Mat Zain said the MMEA took the case seriously and would work with the MACC to combat corruption.

“I have detected this activity since assuming this position in 2022. I will not compromise with any officers and personnel involved in this crime,” he said today.

Two members of the MMEA and a fisherman are on remand until Wednesday, as the MACC investigates whether they were receiving monthly bribes.

Hashim said one of the men was released by the MACC on Saturday, adding that the two suspects had been under surveillance for some time.

Meanwhile, an MACC spokesman said more arrests will follow. – Bernama, February 6, 2023.
