TERENGGANU Pakatan Harapan (PH) is set to hold a meeting with its Barisan Nasional (BN) counterparts to officially discuss a joint strategy for the coming state elections, PH chief Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad said.

The meeting on a date yet to be revealed will discuss seats, candidates and the use of party logos, he said.

“We will have an official meeting involving all political parties in PH and BN in the next two weeks.

“We are still waiting for the date for this meeting,” he told the media in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.

PH and BN, long-time rivals, have set aside differences to co-operate at federal level after the last general election, but the regionally co-operation varies according to state.

Meanwhile, in Terengganu, PAS-Perikatan Nasional swept its opponents aside, taking all eight parliamentary seats.

In 2018, the Islamist party won 22 out of the 32 state seats, while Umno-BN secured the remaining 10. PH has generally been a poor performer in Terengganu.

Kamarul, who is also the chairman of Amanah Terengganu, said PH and Umno were looking for a reasonable formula to resolve seat allocation.

“We haven’t decided on the details yet, we want to get a reasonable formula because the purpose of our early discussion is to see PH and BN achieve success as a whole.

“We have to put aside personal sentiments because Terengganu is a tough field, so there has to be a strong formula that can yield success,” he said.

The Terengganu assembly will dissolve on July 2. Elections must then be held within 60 days. – February 6, 2023.
