BERJAYA Land Bhd has appointed Chester Voo as chief executive officer (CEO) for group aviation, effective today.

Berjaya Land said in a statement today that Voo will oversee the airlines under the group, namely Berjaya Air, Asia Jet, and Rafflesia Airways.

Voo is a veteran in the aviation industry with 29 years of experience.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) CEO from June 2020 until December 2022, where he led the aviation safety regulator through the Covid-19 pandemic and helped it regain its Category 1 rating from the United States Federal Aviation Administration, enabling Malaysian carriers to enter and add flights to the US.

Voo commenced his illustrious career as a pilot with Malaysia Airlines in 1993, and subsequently joined AirAsia in 2008 — where he was involved in flight operations — before joining CAAM.

On the appointment, Berjaya Corp Bhd founder and chairman Vincent Tan expressed confidence that the group’s aviation business would be in good hands under Voo.

Meanwhile, Berjaya Land deputy executive chairman and BCorp joint group CEO Syed Ali Shahul Hameed said Voo’s extensive experience and knowledge would be a great asset to the company. – Bernama, February 2, 2023.
