Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin says shadow cabinet members will respond to issues related to their respective portfolios to serve as an effective opposition. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, February 2, 2023.

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) today announced a 29-member shadow cabinet, with Muhyiddin Yassin as chief of MPs, the first time an opposition front has unveiled such a lineup.

Muhyiddin when announcing the lineup said the members will serve their duties based on the 12th Malaysia Plan.

The Pagoh MP said the PN secretariat will issue a policy statement on matters related to the portfolios involved, in accordance with the policy of the coalition administration in the last term.

“We will present it so the people know we are ready to take on the responsibility if we were given the mandate to govern the country.”

The PN chairman said opposition MPs can express the party’s position on relevant issues according to their respective portfolios.

“They will respond to issues related to their respective portfolios so we are seen as an effective opposition.”

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is deputy chief of MPs, while Larut MP Hamzah Zainudin is opposition leader.

Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin will shadow Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli in their portfolios.

Kota Baru MP Takiyuddin Hassan will oversee the Home Ministry portfolio, while the defence portfolio is to be shadowed by Tanah Merah MP Ikhmal Hisham Abdul Aziz.

Arau MP Shahidan Kassim will follow Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the rural and regional development portfolio.

Bukit Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan will shadow Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
