THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has identified some 90 people who were allegedly paid cash to vote for PAS in Terengganu in the November general election, Malaysiakini reports.
The news portal, quoting MACC sources, said this was part of an ongoing investigation into a viral video that showed people collecting payment from PAS for voting.
The sources said about half of the 90 recipients have been tracked by MACC, who had called them in for their statements to be recorded.
“The man shown in the video giving out the cash to voters had also been summoned for questioning,” said a source.
“Now the investigators are working to call in as many witnesses as possible to facilitate the investigation.
“Altogether, there are around 90 recipients identified (to have received the cash).
“There are some difficulties to find them because not all of them reside in Terengganu. Many involved were outstation voters.”
The sources said MACC managed to identify recipients of the cash from documents it seized during the probe.
These documents include those that the recipients had to sign when they wanted to collect the money, on top of having to take an oath.
MACC is expected to complete its probe into the case in about two weeks, said the portal.
Allegations surfaced on social media that PAS had given money to voters.
The party and its political pact, Perikatan Nasional, made a complete sweep of parliamentary seats in Terengganu, Kelantan and Perlis.
PAS election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had denied paying money for votes. – February 2, 2023.
