Number of evacuees drops in Sabah, Johor

THE number of people seeking shelter from flooding in Sabah and Johor decreased to 1,935 yesterday evening, according to the respective state disaster management committees.

In SABAH, the committee said 556 people were in 12 relief centres across three districts last night, a sharp drop from 1,641 earlier in the day.

According to the committee, there were 400 people in eight centres in Telupid, 111 people at three centres in Paitan and 45 people at one centre in Lahad Datu.

In JOHOR, the committee said there was a slight decrease in numbers from 1,525 people at 4pm to 1,379 people as of 8pm.

A total of 17 relief centres were still operating in the Batu Pahat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Segamat districts. Batu Pahat was still the busiest centre with 919 people taking shelter, followed by Kota Tinggi (223), Mersing (147) and Segamat (90). – Bernama, February 1, 2023.
