KHAIRY Jamaluddin is set to make a comeback after being sacked from Umno last week.

The former Rembau MP said he would have to carefully consider his options before accepting any offers.

He said his re-entry into politics could come as early as the several state elections that could be called anytime now.

“I’m like a free transfer. I’m looking for a new club, scanning my options and what makes sense going forward. It’s not a decision I will take lightly,” he said, comparing himself to a professional football player.

“I still want to be involved in politics, it is difficult to move on, I was in the party for 23 years and I did not leave the party, I was sacked,” he told The Breakfast Grill on BFM this morning.

Khairy said he was open to meeting people to discuss his comeback.

“My own vision is an inclusive party that practices good governance and it must be progressive. There also needs to be chemistry between me and the party.

“I am in no rush to decide and I am very open to whoever wants to meet,” he said.

Khairy, along with another party stalwart, Noh Omar were booted from Umno on Friday for allegedly working against party interests.

Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein and deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan were suspended for six years.

Also suspended were former Jempol MP Mohd Salim Shariff and former Tiram assemblyman Maulizan Bujang.

Gerakan has offered admission to Khairy.

Acting Gerakan Youth chief Wong Chia Zhen said the former health minister would be a perfect fit for the multi-racial party, which is in the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has also hinted at offering Khairy the posts of JDT FC chief executive officer and Johor Youth adviser. – January 30, 2023.
