SACKED Umno member Khairy Jamaluddin has denied allegations that he had kept silent when Zaid Ibrahim was dismissed from the party in 2008.

Khairy told BFM’s Breakfast Grill this morning that he had spoken up about Zaid’s sacking in closed-door meetings.

“I always said during meetings that due process must be adhered to. A member must be brought before the disciplinary board (before he is penalised),” the former health minister said.

“I know what was said by Zaid, maybe this (Zaid’s sacking from Umno) was not said in public about but complaints were made behind closed doors.”

Yesterday Zaid, a former MP, said the party members who were sacked on Friday had not spoken up when he was unceremoniously dismissed 15 years ago

Zaid said that like them, he was unfairly booted.

“When I was sacked from Umno years ago for being too liberal, there was no show-cause, no warning, and no basis.

“Yet, the guys who are now complaining did nothing. You are never far from injustice if you decide to pick and choose when it is applicable,” Zaid tweeted.

He rejoined the party last year.

Khairy was the party’s youth chairman when Zaid was sacked.

The Kelantan-born Zaid joined Umno in 2000. He won the Kota Baru federal constituency in 2004 but was not selected to defend the seat in the subsequent general election.

On Friday night, Umno sacked party leaders Khairy and Noh Omar for allegedly working against the interests of the party.

Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein and deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan were suspended for six years.

Also suspended were former Jempol MP Mohd Salim Shariff and former Tiram assemblyman Maulizan Bujang. – January 30, 2023.

  • Maybe you say a lot of things behind closed doors.
That seems to be a problem.
Is transparency an issue with you?
