FORMER Umno minister Zaid Ibrahim today questioned the silence from several recently sacked party members over his dismissal many years ago.
Taking to Twitter, the ex-de facto law minister said he was not given any show-cause letter on his sacking, similar to those who were dismissed on Friday.
“When I was sacked from Umno years ago for being too liberal, there was no show-cause, no warning, and no basis.
“Yet, the guys who are now complaining did nothing. You are never far from injustice if you decide to pick and choose when it is applicable,” said Zaid, who was sacked in 2008 but had rejoined the party last year.
In 2008, when Zaid was sacked, Khairy Jamaluddin was the youth chief.
The Kelantan-born Zaid joined Umno in 2000 and became the Kota Baru MP in 2004 but was not selected to defend his seat in the 2008 general election.
On Friday night, Umno sacked Khairy Jamaluddin and Noh Omar – both veteran leaders – for allegedly working against the interests of the party.
At the same time, Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein and incumbent deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan were suspended for six years.
Also suspended were former Jempol MP Mohd Salim Shariff and former Tiram assemblyman Maulizan Bujang.
Besides Khairy and Noh, 42 other party members were also expelled – nine from the Putrajaya division, five from the Pasir Gudang division, two from the Tanjung Karang division, and 26 from Pahang. – January 29, 2023.
