UMNO will hold its elections for all top posts barring the top two on March 18, Ahmad Maslan said.

The party secretary-general said the date was agreed on at the Umno Supreme Council meeting last night.

“The Umno divisional committee polls along with the Umno Supreme Council elections will be held simultaneously across the country on March 18,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“The registration date for candidates for the divisional and central elections will start on February 13 and close on February 26 at 5pm.

“Detailed statements about this matter will be announced later.”

Umno had previously agreed in its annual general meeting last month that there would be no challenge for the posts of president and deputy president.

This means that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Mohamad Hasan will remain in their positions for another term.

Ahmad also said annual branch meetings and elections for the branch committees as well as their respective Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings will be held from February 1-26.

The delegates’ meetings and elections for committee members of the three wings at the divisional level as well as elections for the central-level Wanita exco, Youth exco, and Puteri exco will be held simultaneously throughout the country on March 11.

At the Supreme Council meeting last night, former minister Shahrir Abdul Samad has been appointed Umno Election Committee 2023 chairman and Mustapha Yaakub, its secretary. – January 28, 2023.
