UMNO veteran Noh Omar today said he has been sacked from the party.

The former Tanjung Karang MP said he was initially suspended for six years, but had requested to be dismissed.

“What for suspend me? I instead asked the president to sack me.

“The president agreed to my request and said I have been sacked with immediate effect,” Noh told reporters today following the Umno Supreme Council meeting.

Noh, who was visibly upset, said he was disappointed with the party’s initial decision to suspend him for six years – a call made before he was scheduled to face a disciplinary committee on Monday.

He claimed the party is using some kind of “jungle law” in making decisions.

Noh, who is former Selangor BN chief, said today is historic for him as he has ended his ties with the Malay party after 46 years.

“What is the point of being with a party that has strayed from its original struggle?

“My journey with the party, which started in 1977, ends here.

“I was a lawmaker for 27 years,” he told reporters.

Noh confirmed that during the Supreme Council meeting, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in his address announced the names of several other “high-profile leaders” who were to be suspended or dismissed.

“A long list of names was read, including several names other than mine.

“Just wait for the names to be announced later,” Noh said.

Yesterday, Zahid said the party will carry out a large-scale “cleansing” of the party, focusing on those who sabotaged the party and its candidates in the general election. – January 27, 2023.
