Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said today that the state’s elections would only take place after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Speaking to reporters in Kuantan, Amirudin said the state assembly was not likely to be dissolved at any time earlier.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to fall on April 22.

“We are discussing. God willing, we will decide later. So far, I can imagine not (any time) in the near future.

“This means after Raya (Aidil Fitri). Before Raya, there will be no dissolution in Selangor,” he was quoted as saying in the New Straits Times.

He had earlier held a bilateral meeting with Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail at Wisma Sri Pahang in Kuantan.

Only Perlis, Pahang, and Perak had dissolved their state assemblies to hold state elections concurrently with the recent general election on November 19 last year.

Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu have not seen their respective state assemblies dissolved.

Previously PAS/Perikatan Nasional sources told The Malaysian Insight that state elections in the three states controlled by the party — Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu — would most probably be held in early May.

There was talk that the remaining state elections would be held at the same time, although the other three states — Negri Sembilan, Selangor, and Penang — are held by Pakatan Harapan.

Penang must hold its elections by July while the other states have until September. – January 27, 2023.
