Noh Omar to face Umno disciplinary hearing

UMNO veteran Noh Omar has confirmed being hauled up before the party’s disciplinary committee for allegedly working against the party’s interests in the recent general election, reports Sinar Harian.

The Malay-daily reported that apart from Noh, four other Tanjong Karang Umno leaders were also summoned to appear before the Umno disciplinary board on Monday.

“I am ready to accept whatever decision the party makes. If you want to sack me, sack me. I don’t care,” the Tanjong Karang Umno division chief was quoted as saying.

“But if Umno still wants to find fault with certain individuals over the party’s defeat in the 15th general election (GE15), that is up to you.”

The others summoned are division secretary Jasman Anuar, division’s Puteri head Salbiah Saari, Yusop Omar and Nurul Syazwani Noh.

Yusop is also Noh’s younger brother while Nurul Syazwani is his daughter.

Noh said they received the notice last week from disciplinary board chairman Hafarizam Harun via WhatsApp.

“I am ready to be hauled up before the Umno disciplinary board. And I am willing to be sacked if my principle of speaking out for the party is considered sabotage,” he said.

He also confirmed that he will attend the Umno Supreme Council meeting tonight and will use the opportunity to explain the charges brought against him.

Noh said Umno should accept the fact that the people have spoken and the party needs to reflect on its heavy defeat in the polls.

“Did the betrayal of the party only happen in the Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat during the last general election?” he asked.

He also noted that Tanjong Karang was not the only seat Umno had lost in the polls.

He said it was illogical for Umno to find fault when the party failed to win a single seat in some states while Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi himself won the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat with a narrow majority of 348 votes.

“Is there a reason for internal sabotage? If Umno wants to move forward, don’t look for an easy way to blame others. Instead, open a new chapter with self-reflection and forget past defeats,” he said.

Noh is one of Umno’s big names who was not renominated in GE15. He had been the Tanjong Karang MP since 1995 before he was dropped for GE15.

He claimed that he was dropped from being an election candidate because of his criticism of Zahid’s political decisions.

Apart from Noh, Zahid had also said that several other Umno leaders are facing the sack for working against the party’s interests during the GE15 as well as during the recent Umno annual general assembly.

Another name being mentioned of facing potential sacking is Khairy Jamaluddin. – January 27, 2023.
