A TEACHER lost her late husband’s pension fund of RM233,480, after being cheated by a Macau scam syndicate two weeks ago.

Pahang police chief Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the 55-year-old victim from Maran, said she was initially contacted on January 13, by a suspect who claimed to be an employee of a delivery service.

“The teacher claimed that the suspect said she was linked to a distribution of prohibited goods and a money-laundering case, which had become a police case.

“She was then contacted by a second suspect who impersonated a police officer and asked for her banking information to investigate the case,” he said in a statement in Kuantan today.

Ramli said the victim only realised she had been duped after conducting a check at the bank where she found that 16 online money transfer transactions were done without her knowledge.

The victim lodged a report at the Maran district police headquarters yesterday.

Ramli advised the public to not be alarmed when they received phone calls purportedly from the authorities and not to divulge personal information to third parties.

“Enforcement agencies do not carry out any investigation via phone calls and the public is advised to always check with the police or the bank if they receive such calls,” he added. – Bernama, January 26, 2023.
