A COALITION of residents’ associations in Kuala Lumpur have submitted a manifesto to Putrajaya calling for the democratisation of the city council and protection of the capital’s green and public places.

The Save Kuala Lumpur (SKL) group said the manifesto for sustainable development highlighting four main was recently handed over to Putrajaya.

“The future of Kuala Lumpur city has to be decided by City Hall and its residents to ensure KL is holistic and vibrant,” said SKL chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

“SKL believes in four main platforms as outlined in our manifesto that will pave a foundation to Kuala Lumpur’s sustainable development for the current generation and the generations to come,” he said at a press conference today.

The four demands in the manifesto are the democratisation of the local council, increased community participation, protection of green and public places, and gazetting and enforcement of the KL local plan.

The manifesto from SKL, which represents more than 30 residents’ associations, comes a month after the organisation urged lawmakers in Kuala Lumpur to “wake up” and guard the capital against  overdevelopment. – March 12, 2018.
