MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has expressed his displeasure at the police for calling up his former aides Farhan Iqbal and Noor Suhana Ishak for investigation over a commotion at a Muda ceramah last October.
The Muda president said police should instead probe the mastermind behind the provocations.
“The provocations happened many times throughout my campaigning period and the guests who were present have also filed a police report regarding the disturbance of public order and damages caused to property as a result of the provocation during the fundraising dinner in Muar.
“But until now, the matter is still under investigation,” the former youth and sports minister said in a statement today.
Syed Saddiq urged the police to use the best of their time, energy and resources to investigate the persons behind the provocation and not the other way around.
Earlier today, it was reported that Farhan and Noor Suhana were summoned to the police station over a tweet linking Umno Youth to a commotion at Muda’s ceramah.
Noor Suhana, now the aide to DAP’s Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman was called up to the Sentul police station, while Farhan, the press secretary to Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, was summoned to the Putrajaya police station.
Noor Suhana confirmed the matter on Twitter and said both Farhan and herself will be investigated for criminal defamation and misuse of network facilities.
Muda’s information chief Luqman Long was surprised by the police decision to call Suhana, who lodged a complaint about the incident after it occurred.
Earlier in October, The Malaysian Insight had reported that a group of youth gathered at the Ceramah Mega Muar had allegedly caused a commotion when Syed Saddiq was delivering a speech.
They started jeering at Syed Saddiq, shouting “penipu” (liar) while the lawmaker was talking about the assistance he had rendered to the people in the last two years.
In a tweet, Noor Suhana said she had “heard” that Umno Youth members had disrupted the ceramah featuring Syed Saddiq, while labelling them as “gangsters”.
However, in a Twitter thread, she emphasised that she had only heard that Umno Youth members were behind the disturbance.
Farhan had also alleged on Twitter that Umno was behind the incident. – January 25, 2023.
